Our Air powered Creations

Check out the cool toys we made for our Technology Challenge

Very impressive.   Many of you needed to modify your design so that they worked better.  Well done!

They ALL move with air...

Hot air takes up more space than cold air

Today we put a balloon over a bottle so no air would escape.
Then we put the bottle in hot water to make the air inside the bottle hot and then in cold water to make the air cold.

This is what happened...

Hot water
Cold water

For homework we have to blow up a balloon, and put it in the fridge overnight and see what happens.

Remember to take before and after photos!

Mrs Fongs New Arrival

You may have noticed I was away for a bit this week.

I was blessed to be present for the birth of my sister's baby Janneke.  Born 3:45 am Wednesday morning.

Solidarity day 2015

We  are  trying  to be a bit like poor people who don't enough food. They might be lucky to get a little bowl of plain rice.

We sat in a big circle quietly.

They are serving the rice.

We said grace before we ate.

We enjoyed eating the rice together.
It was yum.

Then we got to play.

Air Challange...

Your mission, which you must accept, is to design, make, maybe modify along the way then bring  to school, a toy that moves with air.

Read about the challenge here: Air Technology Challenge
Note we have changed to the due date:  Monday the 30th of March

Today we attached a balloon to a paper jet plane.

See what happened...

We forgot to film this with the class (it was exiting and did not do what we predicted) .  That was a an after shot.

Here a a couple of you- tube clips we have viewed in class to get our ideas going.

Helping out in the Phillipines

We have been learning about how groups of people came together to help out when there was a big storm (called a typhoon) in the Phillipines. Caritas is a Cathloic group who help people in need. Here are our comments about the things we noticed and thought about...

Woosh

Check out what this rocket can do.

First you half fill the rocket with air then you pump air into the rocket to build up the pressure.
What happens when the trigger is pulled to let the air pressure go

This...

Exciting stuff.  were planning to share the experience with room 4 tomorrow.

Counting On, To Make Ten

This week we have been counting on, to make 10.

Today we were given a set of things and took photos of how many we started with.
Then in pairs we had to get more of the same thing so that we had 10.
We took photos and recorded number sentences to match.
Check it out...

Counting things one at a time to 10

A window into the swimming pool

Take a look at what we are working on in swimming.

Some of us are just starting out gaining confidence to get into the pool.

Others have been swimming for years and are perfecting and learning new strokes.

Fun in the Sea

We have been painting!

We are learning how to mix colours from dark to light to paint skylines.

Check out or beaches.
We are swimming in the waves...
