Patterns to 5

We have been learning patterns to make 5

If we have 3 and 2 we get 5
If I have 2 I need 3 more to make 5

If we have 4 and 1 more we get 5
If I have 1 I need 4 more to make 5

We learnt a maths finger game to make patterns to five.
You play with a partner.
First count count, tahi rua toru wha,
then one player shows some fingers (using maths fingers) on one hand,
the other then show how many more to make 5

Maths Fingers

We have been learning to use our maths fingers to show numbers to 10.

We show fingers from one side of our hands and we fill one side first.

This is what they look like...

See how our maths fingers are like tens frames

Today we worked in groups to show a number with our maths fingers, tens frame an abacus and one other way.
Like with our maths fingers tens frames fill a side first.

Look at the abacus.
It has five of one colour and five of another to make ten.

Counting On, To Make Ten

This week we have been counting on, to make 10.

Today we were given a set of things and took photos of how many we started with.
Then in pairs we had to get more of the same thing so that we had 10.
We took photos and recorded number sentences to match.
Check it out...
